Last date for linking of PAN-Aadhaar extended

 The extended deadline for linking PAN-Aadhaar was posted on: 28 March 2023, 2:48 p.m. by PIB Delhi In order to give taxpayers more time, the date for linking PAN and Aadhaar has been extended to 30 June 2023. This means that people can tell the appropriate authority about their Aadhaar for Aadhaar-PAN linking without being penalized. This information is being communicated separately.


Every person who has a PAN as of July 1, 2017, and is eligible to obtain an Aadhaar Number, is required to submit his Aadhaar to the appropriate authority on or before March 31, 2023, upon payment of a prescribed fee, in accordance with the provisions of the Income-tax Act, 1961 (the "Act"). Failure to do so will result in certain Act-related penalties beginning April 1, 2023. The deadline to notify the designated authority about Aadhaar in order to link PAN and Aadhaar has been extended to June 30, 2023.



Taxpayers who fail to provide their Aadhaar in a timely manner will lose access to their PAN on July 1, 2023, and the following consequences will occur during that time:


These PANs will not be refunded;

For as long as the PAN is inactive, no interest will be charged on this refund; According to the Act, TDS and TCS will be collected at a higher rate.

After paying a fee of Rs.1,000 and providing Aadhaar to the appropriate authority, the PAN can be reinstated within 30 days.


People who are not required to link their PAN and Aadhaar will not be subject to the aforementioned penalties. A non-resident as defined by the Act, a person who is not a citizen of India, and individuals who were eighty years old or older at any time during the previous year fall into this category.
